How to configure it from the dashboard

The Welcome Studio features a live preview β€” customize and see the results instantly before anything is sent. Make good use of it, and only save once you're happy with the final look.

Enable welcome and choose the channel

Dashboard ← Welcome Studio

The first two steps. Note that chat welcome is separate from the main welcome β€” it sends a message in the general chat channel, not the welcome channel.

Choose the welcome type

Welcome Studio ← Welcome type

You have two options:

Classic welcome (image) β€” a designed card featuring the member's avatar and name. Visually appealing and the most popular.
Embed welcome β€” a Discord embed with title, description, fields, and images.

You can also set the text position relative to the image β€” with image, text first, or image first.

Design the card

Welcome studio β†’ Image customization

Add your personal touch: background, .ttf font, and avatar shape (circle / square / rounded).

There's an overlay layer under the text β€” enable it if your background is light or busy, otherwise the text won't be legible.

Fastest way: Presets β€” one click applies the theme to both the image and embed.

Write the text and use variables

Welcome studio β†’ Welcome messages

Variables make the message personal. Click any variable in the dashboard to copy it.

You can also add multiple messages and Lona will pick one at random each time β€” keeping greetings fresh and varied.

Test before you publish

Welcome studio β†’ "Test welcome" button

Don't just save and forget. Click "Test welcome" and see it for yourself in Discord β€” the dashboard preview is an approximation, and the actual look shows in Discord itself.

Also try "Test goodbye" if you enabled goodbye messages.

Auto roles are not applied during tests β€” for testing purposes only

Additional features

Welcome studio β†’ Top tabs

Ready tabs to complete the experience:

Goodbye message β€” plain text or embed when a member leaves
Direct message (DM) β€” best place for rules, delivered straight to the member
Auto roles β€” joins with a role already assigned
Protection (Anti-raid) β€” welcome restrictions during mass joins
Interactive buttons β€” buttons inside the welcome message
Delayed message β€” welcome delivered after a delay instead of instantly
Multilingual β€” welcome in the member's language

How the system works

Welcome is the first impression, and Lona gives you four tools for it:

Image card β€” dynamically generated image with the member's avatar, name, and join rank, using the font, color, and background you choose from the dashboard.

Goodbye message when someone leaves.

Welcome DM β€” a direct message sent immediately, great for directing them to the rules.

Auto roles upon joining β€” members receive roles instantly without waiting for a moderator.

Practical recipes

Welcome your way from the very first member

Everything is in the dashboard, and test it before going live:
1Dashboard β†’ Welcome: background, font, and color
2!testwelcome β€” test it on yourself
3Enable auto roles upon join
4!testgoodbye β€” test the goodbye message

Help new members know what to do

A pretty welcome isn't enough β€” it should guide them:
1Enable the welcome DM and include the rules
2Link the reaction roles panel to the message
3Limited auto-role until verification

Design a welcome worthy of your server

Everything from the dashboard, test before publishing:
1Open dashboard ← Welcome
2Pick a background, font, and color
3!testwelcome β€” Test it on yourself
4!testgoodbye β€” Test goodbye too
Tips and warnings
The welcome DM is the best place for rules β€” better than a channel message that gets lost after an hour.
Keep the auto-join role limited, and upgrade it after verification β€” reduces harm from alt accounts.
Welcome stats show you which invite sources bring members who actually stay.
The welcome DM is the best place for server rules β€” better than a message in a channel that gets lost.
Keep the auto-join role limited in permissions, and upgrade it after verification.
If the card is not sending, make sure Lona has the Attach Files permission in the welcome channel.
Many members close their DMs β€” the DM won't reach them and that's normal, so don't rely on it alone for rules.
